Avoiding eviction through better communication
Programme
Spending
Duration
April 2022 – October 2023
Grant Awarded
£90,830
Project summary
Research to identify ways to improve communication between households in housing debt and their housing provider, thereby reducing the likelihood of court proceedings and eviction.
Context
Every year thousands of households face the threat of eviction as a result of rent or mortgage arrears. The impact this can have on the health and wellbeing of those involved, particularly children, can be significant.
It is likely that many evictions could be avoided through better communication. There is currently little data on why households do not engage, the possible barriers to engagement and statistical data on issues such as the number of occupiers who attend court hearings.
Project overview
Research will be undertaken to fill the knowledge gap outlined above. In addition, this project will deliver proposals designed to assist some households in debt, helping them to avoid eviction.
