This report explores the experiences of single parents who became unemployed during the pandemic. What led to them becoming unemployed? What were their experiences of job-seeking and back-to-work support? It aims to ensure needs and experiences of single parents fully reflected in policy-making and evaluation.

This interim report includes five recommendations for helping single parents return to the workplace, these include:

  1. Targeted back into work support.
  2. Opportunities to retrain.
  3. Clearer better off in work calculations.
  4. Flexible work should be opened up.
  5. Childcare should be more available and affordable for single parents.
